What is post-construction cleaning?
Post-construction cleaning removes the dust and debris left by building work. A rough clean clears the space before finishes go in; a final clean details finished surfaces. In Los Angeles, ask which phase your quote covers. A touch-up is the last pass before move-in or opening.
Rough, final and touch-up are common industry terms. Agree on the scope for your space before booking.
Rough clean vs final clean vs touch-up
| Phase | When it happens | What it removes | Who usually books it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rough clean | After major work, before finishes go in | Debris and construction dust | The contractor coordinating the work |
| Final clean | Once finishes are installed | Remaining dust and residue on finished surfaces | The contractor, owner or property manager |
| Touch-up clean | Right before move-in or opening | Dust or marks left after the final clean | The owner, property manager or business opening the space |
These phase names describe common practice. They do not set a legal standard or define what every company includes.
What RRC cleans after construction
Ready Rental Cleaning's post-construction service is the final clean after a build-out or remodel. Your written quote lists the items for your space after a free walkthrough.
- Construction dust, every room: Walls, ledges, window sills, door frames and baseboards
- High dusting: Ledges, vents and fixtures up high, with ladders and extension poles
- Kitchens and break rooms: Inside every cabinet and drawer
- Restrooms: Toilets scrubbed inside and out
See the full post-construction scope for every item we clean.
What to clear or arrange with your contractor
Have your contractor clear heavy debris and arrange hauling before the clean. RRC can bag packaging and light debris and leave it where you tell us, but that does not include taking it away. These items are outside our cleaning scope:
- Trash or junk hauling
- Permanent stains (anything that will not come out)
- Exterior or upper-floor windows
- Lifting over 20 lbs or moving heavy furniture
Arrange heavy lifting or exterior window work separately. Point out permanent stains during the walkthrough so they aren't mistaken for removable dust or dirt.
Common Questions
What are the three phases of construction cleaning?
The common phases are rough cleaning, final cleaning and touch-up cleaning. A rough clean removes debris and dust before finishes go in. A final clean details the finished space, while a touch-up removes dust or marks before move-in or opening. These are common industry terms, not legal standards.
What is a rough clean?
A rough clean removes debris and dust after the major work, before finishes are installed. The contractor usually arranges this phase so the space is cleared for the remaining work. It is not the detailed clean of a finished space.
What is the difference between a construction clean and a final clean?
Construction cleaning is the broad term for cleaning tied to a building project. A final clean is the detailed phase after finishes are installed. If someone asks for a construction clean, ask which phase they mean and what work will still be happening.
What does construction clean up entail?
It depends on the phase: clearing debris and dust during a rough clean is different from detailing finished surfaces. RRC's post-construction scope includes construction dust removal, inside cabinets and drawers, interior glass, restrooms and floors. Heavy debris and dumpster hauling stay with the contractor.
Who usually books the final clean or touch-up clean?
A contractor may arrange the final clean before handing the space over, or an owner or property manager may book it directly. A touch-up is often arranged by the owner, property manager or business preparing to open. Agree on who is booking each phase so the handoff is clear.
Does RRC haul away construction debris?
No. Heavy construction debris and dumpster hauling stay with your contractor. RRC bags packaging and light debris and leaves it where you tell us, as described on the post-construction service page.
Should the trades finish before the final clean?
Yes, plan the final clean for after the last trade has finished. Sanding or installation work can leave dust on surfaces that were just cleaned. A touch-up is a last pass before move-in or opening, rather than a replacement for the final clean.
